According to the current TÜV report, many vehicles from German manufacturers perform well in the general inspection and often only have a few defects. Inflation, high interest rates and diesel driving bans are currently causing uncertainty among drivers. This is also reflected in the stagnating market. More and more people therefore seem to prefer to rely on their old cars instead of investing in a new one.

According to the TÜV report 2024, the average age of the vehicle fleet in Germany has even reached a new high: ten years. However, one in five cars does not pass the general inspection due to significant or dangerous defects. The TÜV therefore took a closer look at the defect rates of the various vehicles in the individual car age groups.

The best cars from German manufacturers

The main inspection results of all TÜV companies in Germany are included in the TÜV report. That's more than ten million general inspections between July 2022 and June 2023. The result: While some vehicles seem to be in the workshop more often than in the garage, there are almost never any problems with others. This also applies to brands from Germany. In the following ranking we show you the ten best cars from German manufacturers in the age group up to five years, based on the rate of significant defects (EM).

10th place: VW Polo

The VW Polo comes in tenth place in the ranking of the best German cars with one European Championship odds of 5.6. In the first general inspections, it often performs above average without any defects. Over the years, the most common problems appear with the brakes, rusting exhaust systems and sometimes breaking springs. The VW Polo shares tenth place with the Audi Q5, Mercedes GLC and the Opel Karl.
