OpenAI gave ChatGPT a voice back in September 2023. However, the voice function was previously only reserved for paying ChatGPT Plus subscribers. The company has now activated the function for all users.
ChatGPT's voice function is now available free of charge to all users. OpenAI announced this in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Users can now click on the headphone icon to talk to ChatGPT and receive voice answers.
ChatGPT Voice: Voice function for all users
The feature was introduced in September 2023. However, it was initially only available to paying ChatGPT Plus subscribers. The presentation of the voice function comes at a time when there is chaos in Open AI.
Because the company's board of directors surprisingly fired co-founder Sam Altman. After an employee strike and threats of lawsuits from investors, he is now apparently returning to the executive chair just a few days later. In the demo version on X, ChatGPT even makes a joke about the CEO drama at OpenAI.
In the example, a woman asks ChatGPT: “It's been a long night for the team and we're hungry. How many 16-inch pizzas should I order for 778 people?” That corresponds to the number of OpenAI employees, most of whom had threatened to leave the company if Sam Altman was unable to return and the board resigned.
This is how you can talk to ChatGPT
The voice function of ChatGPT should seem relatively familiar to many people. All you have to do is click on the headphone icon and then ask the chatbot a question. ChatGPT then converts your question into text and provides you with a voice answer.
The function is similar to communication with voice assistants such as Alexa or Siri. According to OpenAI, it should provide better answers thanks to ChatGPT's technology. First, you can choose from five different voices with which the chatbot should respond to you.
Meanwhile, the company believes that its language model has much more potential. For example, OpenAI works with Spotify to translate podcasts into other languages. The sound of the speaker's voice should remain unchanged.
