Have you bought an Apple Watch and now want to pair it with your iPhone? We'll show you what steps are necessary to connect the two smart devices with each other.

It will probably be under one or two Christmas trees again this year: the Apple Watch. So that you can get the most out of your smart watch, you can pair it with your iPhone.

If you want to use your Apple Watch with the latest operating system, watchOS 10, you need a Series 4 or newer device. Your iPhone shouldn't be too old either. According to Apple, an iPhone Xs or newer with iOS 17 is required to connect the two devices.

Pairing Apple Watch with your iPhone – here's how

Before you can pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone, you must update your iPhone to the latest version of the operating system. You can do this in your Settings app under General. You can find any software updates here.

Now you have to check whether Bluetooth is switched on on your iPhone. A connection to a WLAN or the mobile network is also necessary.

Once these requirements have been met and all preparations have been completed, you can start connecting straight away. The system assistants on the iPhone and the Apple Watch work together to achieve this.

Step by step instructions

In order to pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone, you must first turn on your smartwatch. To do this, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo on the display.

If that doesn't work, check the charge level on your Apple Watch. You may need to charge it first.

If your smartwatch is on, you need to hold it close to your iPhone. The pairing screen will now appear directly on your iPhone. Confirm the process by tapping “Continue”.

“Pair a new Apple Watch”

If the pairing screen does not appear automatically, you can also perform the process manually. To do this you need the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Here you can “Pair a New Apple Watch”.

Once you have completed all of these steps, tap “Configure for myself”. You will now be asked to hold your Apple Watch up to your iPhone's camera.

Bring the edges of your watch exactly into the specified grid on your iPhone screen. This will start pairing your Apple Watch and iPhone.
