Digitalization: The “smartest” cities in Germany

Bitkom has created a digital ranking of 82 German cities with at least 100,000 inhabitants. To do this, the IT industry association collected, checked and qualified over 13,000 data points in five subject areas – from online citizen services to sharing products for mobility and intelligent traffic lights to broadband availability.

The total of 37 indicators are calculated from 162 parameters per city. They lead to an overall index on a scale of zero to 100 points. In each topic area, innovative projects outside of the indicators considered were also recorded and rated with a maximum of five percent of the total score achievable.
