Eight billion dollars – such a large fund is raised US VC General Catalyst as the company announced at the end of October 2024. The money will be increasingly invested in startups in the early development phases, worldwide, but with a focus on the markets in the USA, Europe and India.
The money is divided into several pots: Of the two billion dollars, around 4.5 billion are intended for the so-called “core VC fund” and thus for seed and growth financing. A further $1.5 billion is earmarked for the so-called “creation strategy,” which is intended to specifically help experienced business founders set up new companies. The remaining $2 billion will flow into “Separately Managed Accounts,” special investment vehicles typically designed for individual institutional LPs.
According to Hemant Taneja, CEO of General Catalyst, the capital will be in the areas Artificial intelligence, defense, climate and energy, industrial, healthcare and fintech invested. Taneja emphasized that the company relies on collaborations with ambitious entrepreneurs Innovation and resilience to promote.
General Catalyst, founded in 2000, has already supported numerous large technology companies such as Airbnb, Instacart and Stripe and has become increasingly international in recent years through mergers, for example with La Famiglia in Europe and Venture Highway in India. Currently, General Catalyst has over $30 billion in assets under management.
