When is Apple Intelligence coming to Germany?

Apple Intelligence was not initially supposed to come to Germany. But according to new information, the AI ​​for iPhone and Co. could be available here as early as 2025.

In June 2024, Apple unveiled its new AI system, Apple Intelligence, at its developer conference WWDC. It is intended to be “the personal intelligent system for iPhone, iPad and Mac,” as the US company writes.

But initially it looked as if Apple Intelligence could not be introduced in Germany and other EU countries due to EU regulations. However, there are now new indications that the AI ​​system from Apple could be introduced in this country as early as 2025.

When is Apple Intelligence coming to Germany?

Apple Intelligence will be available free of charge to anyone with an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPad and Mac with M1 chip or newer. The upgrade to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or macOS Sequoia will already include a first beta of the AI ​​system.

The final launch of Apple Intelligence is scheduled for October 2024. However, this only applies to users who use their device in English (US).

When Apple Intelligence was announced, the US company had already stated that more languages ​​would follow. The Verge reported, these include German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Vietnamese “and others”.

Bob Borchers, Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, also confirmed this to HeiseOnline during a visit to Germany. But the expansion of Apple Intelligence to German does not mean that the AI ​​system can be introduced here. The Digital Markets Act (DMA) could stand in Apple's way.

Can Apple reach an agreement with the EU?

Just a few days after the announcement of Apple Intelligence, it was announced that Apple will not initially introduce the AI ​​feature in the EU. The reason for this is the Digital Markets Act, which is intended to ensure that the digital economy in the EU remains competitive.

But what does the announcement that Apple Intelligence will also be available in German mean? Does this ensure that Apple can also introduce its feature here?

According to Borchers, there is no confirmation of this yet. There is no news from the talks with the EU Commission, as he told HeiseOnline said.

However, this only applies to iPhone and iPad. For Mac users, Apple Intelligence will be available right from the start. This applies to both the US English version from October and the German version, which will be available from 2025.
