That's why you should install the new iPhone update quickly

Although iOS 17.2 is already in the starting blocks, Apple has released another update in advance with iOS 17.1.2. The reason for this is relatively simple: newly discovered security problems that the new iPhone update is supposed to fix.

iOS 17.1.2 is purely a security update. This means that there are no new functions on board. Because they should only be included in version iOS 17.2. Nevertheless, you should install iOS 17.1.2 as soon as possible because, like the previous version, it fixes some security problems.

However, as usual, Apple is keeping a low profile with details. So far all that is known is that these are vulnerabilities in the so-called Webkit. This is a program that ensures that websites are displayed correctly in the browser.

It is still unclear whether the two security holes have already been actively exploited. However, it would apparently be possible to use any code via the vulnerabilities. Apple therefore recommends installing the update quickly.

When is iOS 17.2 coming?

Many iPhone users are eagerly awaiting the already announced iOS 17.2 update. In contrast to the security update iOS 17.1.2, the version should contain new functions. This includes, among other things, the diary app Journal.

The update is also intended to fix WiFi problems with the iPhone. Contacts should be verified via iMessage. If an unknown device joins a conversation, users can receive information about it.

Install iOS 17.1.2

iOS 17.1.2 has been available for free download since November 30, 2023. As usual, Apple recommends a prompt installation. The new iPhone update is available for all models starting with the iPhone XS. The version can be changed via the device settings under “Generally” and “Software update“ can be downloaded.

With iPadOS 17.1.2, the US company has also presented a new update for the iPad. The new software is available for all devices from the second generation iPad Pro (12.9 inch), the third generation iPad Pro (10.5 inch), the first generation iPad Pro (11 inch) and the third generation iPad Air generation available. This also applies to the normal sixth generation iPad and the fifth generation iPad Mini.
