Ten Ororatech satellites are currently in space. The Munich Spacetech startup thus wants to create a digital twin of the earth in order to recognize forest fires at an early stage.
The Munich Spacetech Startup Ororatech has increased its Series B financing round by another 37 million euros. The BNP Paribas solar impulses Venture Fund has cited the expansion round. In addition, the inventory investor Bayern Kapital, the venture and growth capital company of the Free State of Bavaria, as well as Rabo Ventures, Edaphon and the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF) are participating.
Ororatech develops mini satellites with thermal imaging cameras that are supposed to recognize forest fires worldwide at an early stage. Fires are increasingly derailed into regions that are difficult to access because emergency services notice them too late. Ororatech Answer to this: A global network of nanosatellites that delivers thermal data around the clock – and thus makes fires visible in the formation.

Due to the Series B extension, the total investment volume increases to over 80 million euros. In a Series A round in 2021, the Munich startup collected almost 6 million euros, around a year later the round was expanded by 15 million euros. The 25 million-series-B round followed at the end of 2024. Ten of its own satellites are currently to circle around the earth, others are to follow. This creates a “digital twin of the earth”, which not only recognizes fires, but should also be able to simulate future fire behavior.
“Our goal is to drive our growth and position as a leading provider of solutions to the detection and risk assessment of forest fires based on thermal data for various industries and governments worldwide,” says CEO and CTO Martin Langer.
Ororatech already protects over 347 million hectares of forest areas with its Wildfire Intelligence Solution – on six continents. Governments in Greece and Canada are already using the technology to protect nature, infrastructure and human life. Ororatech does not only want to use its satellite technology for forest fire detection in the future. The Spacetech also plans to monitor environmentally harmful gas torches, urban heat islands and huge agricultural areas from space in the future.
