The startup develops robots equipped with AI and sensors. They should be able to hear and see. The founder receives fresh capital for his vision of humanoid robots.
Neura Robotics from Metzingen, Swabia, develops smart and humanoid robots. The focus of development is on the networking and intelligence of the robots. The startup produces various models that should all be able to communicate with each other. To do this, it relies on AI and sensor systems that it develops itself.
Neua Robotics' models include robots that look like arms and are stationary. But also ones with a head, torso and arms on a stable platform with wheels – the model is called MiPA. The startup is also working on a robot that has legs, can walk and can be used in all areas of life: 4NE-1. According to Neura Robotics, the cognitive robots can see and hear and are equipped with a sense of touch. They should also act autonomously and learn from experience.
Order backlog of one billion euros
Now the startup has one Series B financing of 120 million euros received. The round is led by Lingotto Investment Management. Lingotto is an investment firm that is part of Exor NV – a major European investment holding company controlled by the Italian Agnelli family, which has investments in, among others, the Juventus football club and Ferrari. However, the following are still involved in Neura Robotocs: BlueCrest Capital Management, Volvo Cars Tech Fund, InterAlpen Partners, Vsquared Ventures, HV Capital, Delta Electronics, C4 Ventures, L-Bank, the founder David Reger himself and other players. Most recently, Neura Robotics received 15 million euros in 2023 from VC Inter Alpen from Silicon Valley investor Stephen George, who was an early investor in Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter.
David Reger founded Neura Robotics in 2019. In the market for smart and humanoid robots, it competes with major players from the USA and China. “We want to be the first to bring household robots onto the market before Apple and everyone else does,” said Reger in an interview with Gründerszene. Apple introduced an upcoming robot for the home last year. Neura Robotics is initially thinking more about use in nursing. “We want to ensure that people can stay at home longer,” says Reger. So you don't have to go to a nursing home. MiPA should be available as a commercially usable product in two years and an initial version will be used in the home to monitor people.
The 4NE-1 model can already be purchased, but is still in the development phase. The employees who work on it are all under NDA and are not allowed to discuss what exactly they are doing with other teams in the startup, says Reger.
Last year, the startup's number of employees doubled to more than 300. In addition, Neura Robotics says it has an order backlog of one billion euros. “The market potential of cognitive robotics is greater than that of smartphones,” says Reger in a press release. “I am proud that Neura has brought the first cognitive robot onto the market and is the only German player in humanoid robotics.” The fresh capital will flow into further research and development.
