With the end of the tank discount, petrol and diesel prices in Germany are slowly but noticeably increasing. That’s why we explain in our “how to” how you can save diesel and petrol with fuel-efficient routes on Google Maps. Do you already use the function?

The grace period will soon be over: on August 31, 2022, the three-month artificial recovery at gas stations throughout Germany will end. From the deadline of September 1, 2022, state funding or relief for German drivers will no longer apply.

And just a few days before the end of the tank discount, fuel prices are rising again throughout Germany. Therefore, more and more people want to save diesel and petrol. This is exactly where the online giant Google wants to support them.

Fuel-efficient routes: save diesel and petrol with Google Maps

Just a few days ago, Google announced that it would finally roll out the so-called fuel-saving routes on Google Maps in Germany. Google cites three aspects as the official justification:

  1. More and more people are interested in more sustainability in everyday life.
  2. More than every third German wants to focus on more sustainability through electric and hybrid drives when buying a new car.
  3. The search volume for “save petrol and gas” has increased by 338 percent compared to the previous year.

Whether these reasons were really decisive in the end is irrelevant. In fact, Google is making it easier for its users to navigate from one place to another by car in a more environmentally friendly way.

But how do you activate the fuel-efficient routes on Google Maps? This is exactly what we want to explain to you step by step in “How to”.

In the first step you open Google Maps on your smartphone.
