If you use WhatsApp on your iPhone, you have probably already noticed this problem. Because WhatsApp has been saving duplicate photos on the iPhone for a few days now.
This bug has probably annoyed numerous iPhone users in the past few days. Because of a malfunction, photos received from WhatsApp always appear twice in the Photos app on the iPhone.
Users have already discussed this problem in Apple's community forum. More than 12,000 people have said they have also noticed this problem.
But what exactly is this problem and how can you fix it? We'll explain to you how images will only appear once in your photos in the future.
iPhone saves duplicate WhatsApp photos
If you have selected the settings on your iPhone so that photos received via WhatsApp are automatically saved on your device, you are most likely also affected by this bug.
iPhone users discussed this problem in the help forum. Some suspected that the problem was caused by the latest version of Apple's operating system, iOS 17.4.
Apple rolled out the system update in early March. However, the WhatsApp problem also occurred among users who had not yet updated their iPhone.
In the meantime, WhatsApp mother Meta has also spoken out. The US company has confirmed that the problem is caused by a bug in the app itself.
This is how you can solve the problem
A spokesman for the company advised that the app be updated to its latest version. However, you can also switch off WhatsApp from saving photos on your device at all.
If you want to update your version of WhatsApp, you can do this in your app store. Open the app and tap your initials in the top right corner.
This will take you to your account, where you can also see all upcoming updates for your installed apps. Here, search for WhatsApp and click “Update”.
Alternatively, you can also search for your update in the App Store. To do this, tap on the small magnifying glass in the lower right corner and type WhatsApp here. You can also find the update here.
WhatsApp: Stop saving photos
However, you can also completely switch off WhatsApp from storing photos on your iPhone. To do this, open WhatsApp and open the settings in the lower right corner.
Select the Chats menu item here. Now you can deactivate the Save function in “Recordings”. Received photos and videos will then no longer be automatically saved on your iPhone.
