Skeptics say that AI is just a temporary hype that will soon disappear. I see it differently. Because artificial intelligence will change the world in ways that we may not yet be able to fully imagine. A column.

There seem to be a lot of AI skeptics at the moment. I take your expressed doubts seriously. I looked at the numbers and listened to the critics' arguments. Nevertheless, I come to a different conclusion:

The “AI bubble,” as it is often called, will not burst! Rather, I believe that AI will take us into a new phase that will change the world in ways we may not yet fully imagine.

Why I am convinced of AI

When AI came into the public eye with applications like ChatGPT, I was immediately fascinated. I immediately tried out the technology, explored its possibilities and was fascinated by how quickly and precisely tasks can be solved.

This enthusiasm continued, but at some point – as always happens for me after the initial enthusiasm – a phase of reflection set in. What is actually happening here? Maybe you know this too: the initial enthusiasm gives way to “Okay, what do I do with it now?”

It didn't take long for the first critical voices to become loud. Friends and colleagues expressed skepticism, I read articles emphasizing the limitations of AI, and there were moments when I, too, wondered: Are the doubters perhaps right?

This was the case, for example, when I discovered that AI's answers are not always correct. Or when the image generator didn't implement my instructions even after the 30th attempt.

But the more I looked into the critics' arguments, the clearer it became to me: No, by looking at the many negative details of AI and the points of criticism – which undoubtedly exist – the critical voices underestimate the huge change that AI brings with it .

The critics' arguments are not convincing

The most common doubts about AI can be summarized with three arguments. First: Many companies don't know how to use AI sensibly. Second: Energy consumption is high, too high. Third: The available training data is becoming scarce. These arguments are not entirely unfounded.

In my opinion, however, they fall short. Companies will learn to deal with new technologies – this has always been the case, for example with the introduction of the Internet. We must not forget: AI systems have only been known to the public for around two years and many companies have only started working with this technology since then.

It takes time to find useful applications for something so groundbreaking. And yes, AI consumes energy, even a lot of energy. So much so that operators of corresponding server farms are now concluding contracts with operators of nuclear reactors regarding the purchase of electricity.

This issue, the increased consumption of energy, applied to every significant technological innovation. But these challenges are already being worked on. Researchers are now developing more energy-efficient models and hardware solutions that dramatically reduce power requirements.

The training data issue will also be resolved. Efficiency improvements and new approaches, such as synthetic data or low-data methods for training models, will overcome these challenges.
What I believe critics miss by looking at these challenges is the enormous progress that is already visible. AI is not an abstract vision of the future – it is reality and is already changing entire industries today.

The opportunities: Where AI is already impressing today

Let’s just look at what AI is already doing today. In medicine, it helps with diagnoses and the development of new therapies. In agriculture, it optimizes harvest cycles and reduces the use of pesticides. In logistics, it ensures more efficient supply chains and lower CO₂ emissions.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg. I find the lesser-known areas of application particularly exciting. Is AI now not only able to compose songs, but also to create them in such a way that people find these pieces of music deeply emotionally moving?

Or AI is used in creative processes such as designing fashion or writing scripts. AI technology is not a luxury for large companies. It is accessible for “small money”, versatile and thus democratizes access to innovations that were previously reserved for only a few.

The Next Level: Where AI Can Really Shine

The aforementioned examples are just the tip of the AI iceberg. Let's take a closer look: Maybe you've already experimented with image generators. But have you already used AI to develop a truly innovative project? For example, let AI create an interactive logo or an animated brand strategy.

Combine visual and text-based tools to design a completely new identity for your brand or personal project. Analyzing decisions using AI systems like ChatGPT or Claude is good – but what about using AI for scenario simulations?

Let an AI tool develop long-term strategies for your company or projects. Imagine if you could test how different decisions would play out over the years – before you make them.

And one last example: Many people use AI to automate individual tasks. But what if you automate entire workflows? Use AI to plan projects, monitor progress, and make adjustments in real time. This way you can completely restructure your everyday working life.

My appeal: Make AI your partner

I would like to suggest that we consider AI not just as a tool, but as a kind of “partner”. Because AI systems are much more than just tools that make your work easier here and there. Your true strength becomes apparent when you use it consistently and strategically.

So you can make AI a partner that not only supports you, but inspires you to take your work and projects to a completely new level. What can you do specifically? Here are three specific ideas:

  1. Create a digital twin: Use AI tools to create a virtual version of your business or project. Simulate changes, test new strategies, and see how your decisions could play out in real time.
  2. Develop a personal AI framework: Think about which tasks occur regularly in your everyday life and develop a framework that specifically integrates AI into your workflows to increase efficiency and creativity.
  3. Change the status quo: Use AI to venture into completely new areas. How about using AI to develop a “coach” to help you develop your skills? Or when AI helps you start a project that you would never have tackled without the technology.

Conclusion: The AI revolution has begun

The AI revolution has begun, and it's not waiting for us to decide whether we want to join in or not. It is there and – despite the challenges – it will accompany and change our lives in the future.

So the question is not whether you want to be part of this change, but rather how you can use it to your advantage. As the saying goes: “The future belongs to those who shape it!”. So why not start today?
