On Friday a week ago, important people in the German economy must have risen a light. After visiting Nvidia boss Jensen Huang, the Federal Chancellery sent a message in which Friedrich Merz (CDU) praised the commitment of the US chip manufacturer when building German infrastructure for the application of artificial intelligence (AI).

“For the Federal Republic, it may be the last chance to play a role globally in the field of research and development of artificial intelligence.”

“Investments in strategic AI infrastructures are central to the innovative strength of our country,” said the Chancellor. “We expressly welcome the commitment of Nvidia and his partner.” This cooperation can be seen as a supplement to the EU initiative for the establishment of AI gigafabrics.

On his trip to Europe, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang also stopped in Berlin. Here he is at a lecture during the Vivatech conference in Paris.

Telekom single -handedly

The last sentence at the latest made some puzzled, because one of the partners at Nvidia's project should be Telekom. The problem with this: Other corporations, including the black group, but also SAP, had previously assumed that they would apply in a consortium with the Telekom subsidiary T-Systems for EU funding to set up a German AI gigafactory.

Some media had already reported that Black, Telekom, SAP and Siemens want to go into the race for one of the five funding packages from Brussels, each of which is around two billion euros.
