OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Pro. The new AI model is primarily intended to enable work at a research level. We'll tell you what makes this version different from previous ones and how much a subscription costs.
AI chatbots are increasingly being used in everyday work. According to a recent survey, 44 percent of people in companies use artificial intelligence to write emails, messages or memos.
Almost as many, 42 percent, say that they use AI models in their everyday work for research work or collecting information and analyzing it. This is exactly where OpenAI comes in with its new ChatGPT Pro subscription model.
What is ChatGPT Pro?
OpenAI calls ChatGPT Pro a $200 monthly plan. It is a new subscription model with which the US company wants to address a very specific target group.
According to the company, ChatGPT Pro offers “scaled access to the best models and tools from OpenAI”. Subscribers receive unlimited access to OpenAI o1 – “our smartest model,” as it is officially called.
ChatGPT Pro also offers unlimited access to o1-mini, GPT-4o and Advanced Voice. Also included is the o1 Pro mode. This is a version of o1 that can use more computing power. According to OpenAI, AI should think better and provide even better answers “to the most difficult problems”.
Who does OpenAI provide this subscription model for?
With ChatGPT Pro, OpenAI is aimed primarily at scientists and engineers who use artificial intelligence at a research level on a daily basis. The US company wants to give them the opportunity to “increase their productivity and be at the forefront of progress in AI”.
The o1 pro mode is used for this, which, according to OpenAI, “thinks longer”. This is intended to provide the “most reliable answers”.
According to reviews from external expert testers, o1 Pro mode delivers more reliable, accurate and comprehensive answers, especially in areas such as data science, programming and case law analysis.
OpenAI has also introduced a stricter evaluation standard for the o1 Pro mode. Accordingly, a model is only considered solved if it gives the correct answer in four out of four attempts. Otherwise this will happen in just one attempt.
Due to the resulting longer response time, OpenAI has built in a progress bar. Anyone who switches to another conversation in the meantime will be informed via in-app notification.
