For founder Andreas Böhm, data that is not used effectively is a waste – with consequences. Simply put: knowledge is lost. For example, diseases are not detected earlier and unnecessary operating costs are not reduced. Then it doesn't help that tech companies like OpenAI, Meta, Google and Aleph Alpha are bringing new language models onto the market in droves. “Because the same applies to all AI models: the results are only as good as the underlying data,” says the founder.
According to a report by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport, around 80 percent of industrially generated data is currently not being reused. One reason for this is that companies often do not know how to do it. In addition to legal uncertainties and a lack of technical infrastructure, 42 percent of the companies surveyed in a DIHK study cited a lack of their own know-how as an obstacle to data use.
Thyssenkrupp and Biontech are among the customers
Böhm has therefore developed a technology that is intended to simplify the handling of data. His startup One Data, founded in 2013 in Passau under the name “One Logic”, helps companies to intelligently collect data, incorporate it into various programs in a meaningful way and then analyze and use it. In this way, the startup wants to save its customers 80 percent of the time required and give them a competitive advantage. In the DACH region, large companies sometimes use One Data's solution, including steel producer Thyssenkrupp, vaccine manufacturer Biontech, automotive supplier ZF and specialty glass manufacturer Schott.
Böhm has now secured a financing injection to expand its software into international markets. Today, the startup announced that it has completed an extension of its Series B financing to the amount of 32 million euros. The round is led by the deeptech VC Vsquared Ventures, the London-based venture capital firm Molten Ventures and HV Capital. Existing investors also participated again.
The founder wants his software to bring more stability to companies' value chains, enable them to make more precise predictions about product demand, and enable them to conduct research more quickly. His solution initially bundles data silos – stored data from sources such as Linkedin, SAP, or Salesforce that are distributed throughout an organization – into finished data products. These are then suitable for further work with generative AI applications such as ChatGPT or can be transferred to process mining concepts. Böhm's company now employs more than 200 people.
