The Internet has now become one of the most popular places for advertisers. But users often find digital advertising simply annoying when surfing. But which form of advertising is the most annoying of all?
The advertising market has changed significantly over the past 20 years. For example, more and more advertising has migrated from the print sector to the digital world.
So it's no wonder that the Internet now generates the most revenue for the advertising industry on the entire advertising market in Germany. But it is precisely this digital advertising that can often be annoying for users.
This digital advertising is the most annoying
Video advertising is very popular when it comes to annoying advertising on the Internet. Statista determined this result in its Consumer Insights survey.
50 percent of Germans find video advertising on websites that start automatically and also play sound particularly annoying. If the sound is turned off but the advertising video starts on its own, 37 percent of those surveyed are annoyed.
Just as many users find it annoying on the Internet when they are shown advertising that is based on their online search queries. 36 percent are also bothered by advertising for products they have already purchased.
Almost a third of those surveyed also find personalized advertising on social networks annoying, as well as audio advertising that is played in podcasts, for example.
But not all users on the Internet find digital advertising annoying. This is the case for twelve percent of those surveyed.
What can you do against annoying advertising on the Internet?
However, if you are not one of these twelve percent and are bothered by advertising in your browser, you can also exclude this digital advertising from your browser. There are so-called ad blockers for this, which are sometimes also referred to as ad blockers.
With these programs you can ensure that you no longer see advertisements on websites. Around 37 percent of Internet users worldwide use these help programs.
Germany is even above average. At around 39 percent, ad blockers are even more widespread here than in a global comparison.
