In the run-up to the International Consumer Electronics Fair (IFA), lighting technology manufacturer Signify presented the “Hue Secure” product line. Philips Hue wants to make your home safer with intelligent cameras and lighting as well as new sensors and app functions.
With Hue Secure, lighting technology manufacturer Signify has presented a new product line from Philips Hue. The goal: a holistic system that should make every home safer. In the run-up to the International Consumer Electronics Fair (IFA), we had the opportunity to preview the new Philips Hue smart home products and features.
Hue Secure: Philips Hue presents new smart home products
One of the highlights: the Philips Hue Secure cameras, with which users can monitor their home in real time. The Philips Hue app makes it possible, for example, to trigger a deterrent light and sound alarm remotely via the smartphone.
A new version of the Festavia chain of lights is intended to create atmospheric moments outdoors. With the MR16, Philips Hue is also expanding its range of lamps. Another highlight: the two-part Philips Hue Secure contact sensor, which can be attached to doors, windows or cabinets to secure them.
The Philips Hue Secure Cameras
The secure cameras transmit recordings as a 1080p HD live stream. They also have a night vision function so that they can see movements even in the dark. They can use a combination of light and sound alarms to deter uninvited guests.
There is also the option of communicating with people via an integrated intercom function when users see them via the live stream. In terms of privacy, the Philips Hue cameras feature end-to-end encryption, ensuring all video clips, snapshots and live views remain private.
The devices are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. There is both a battery-operated and a wired model – each in black or white. The wired camera can be combined with a stand. A ground spike enables flexible positioning outdoors.
Depending on the application scenario, both devices have advantages and disadvantages. For example, the battery of the battery-powered camera cannot be replaced. The stand is recommended for the wired version. In hands-on, however, both cameras were able to convince in terms of optics and workmanship.
The Philips Hue Secure contact sensor
The two-part secure contact sensor is suitable for doors, windows or cabinets. It is also available in black or white. As soon as the contact between the sensor and the associated magnet is broken – for example when a window is opened – the sensor sends a real-time notification to the Hue app.
Users also have the option of attaching a contact sensor to the front door and programming it so that the lights in the hallway are switched on and a notification is sent as soon as the door opens.
Alternatively, the sensor can also be used to automate the lighting in other parts of the house. For example, it can be programmed so that the lighting switches on and off automatically when the bathroom door is opened or closed.
The handling of the contact sensors is meanwhile very simple. A self-adhesive back allows for easy installation. The devices are easy to hold.
Other novelties
Die Philips Hue Secure escape light camera was specially developed for outdoor use. With the camera, users can keep an eye on their garden, terrace or driveway. As soon as they trigger a light alarm via the Philips Hue app, the floodlight illuminates a large area in a predefined color – such as white or even red.
A new generation of Philips Hue Festavia fairy lights can be used both indoors and outdoors. Users can illuminate interiors in a festive way or accentuate a garden party with bright colors. Also new: Prism, Twinkle and Opal light effects, available specifically for Festavia in the Philips Hue app.
With the new one Philips Hue MR16-Lampe conventional radiators in the house can also be replaced by an intelligent alternative. The lamp works with the same 12V low voltage as conventional MR16 lamps and is therefore fully compatible.
